From Australia to the world, local Sarah Higginson won an eight round fight over Philippine Charimae Salvador to win the World Boxing Association Oceania regional light flyweight belt on Friday at Metro City in Perth.
In a tough round trip, where the local had to put all her efforts to overcome the pressure of her opponent, Higginson showed the capitalization of her experiences and her desire to get on the list of the best in the world.
The Australian representative brings with her a story of inspiration and self-improvement. When she was in her early 20s and his father died of diabetes, Higginson, who was proudly carrying 250 pounds by age 18, decided she would lose weight to stay healthy and not create further suffering for her family.
That’s how he came to boxing with trainer Dale “Big Rigs” Phillips who saw his potential, perseverance and strength. Sarah she made 15 amateur fights, of which she only lost 2 and by 2020 she made the leap to professionalism with a draw. She had three consecutive victories and this year she fought against two female exponents from her native land; first Tayla Robertson and then Shannon O’Connell. She lost against both of them.
Finally, last Friday, September 2, he won the black and gold crown of Oceania and is waiting for more challenges.
