Manchester United’s inept transfer policy has been scrutinized by many over the last decade.
The lack of planning on and off the field has led to the gradual decline of the club.
The Glazers have invested the money in big-name players who draw the most commercial income.
Signings like Falcao, Ángel Di María, Alexis Sánchez and Edinson Cavani are just a few examples of players past their prime coming to Old Trafford for a massive pay rise.
United did not take longevity or tactics into account when signing players. They did not fully support the managers, who were always left wanting more.
José Mourinho was not satisfied with United’s business in the summer of 2018, especially after the rivals grew stronger.
The Glazers have a pattern of panic spending more in the Europa League than in the Champions League.
The club tends to throw money at the wrong players instead of the right ones.
According to The Telegraph, United have spent more than £200m over the past decade.
“The CIES Football Observatory states that United have spent more than £209m on players since July 2012.”
“According to the study, United squandered £1.4bn on 33 players over the 10-year period in which their market value was estimated at £1.19bn.”
They rank above Juventus and Paris Saint-Germain as the worst culprits in overpaying players since 2012.
The club have recently come under heavy criticism for spending a total of €150m on Harry Maguire and Aaron Wan-Bissaka.
Both players are currently out of the first team, with Wan Bissaka closer to an Old Trafford exit.
United Fans hope that the departure of Ed Woodward will lead to a change in transfer policy in the coming years.
