It seems that no one cares about Liverpool FC as much as some Liverpool supporters.
Of course, this refers to the multitude of people on social media who always find something to complain about. For example, the fan channels on YouTube and their monstrous following reflect a lot of frustration with the decisions made by the club. As with other clubs, division can permeate a club even though, in Liverpool’s case, they are perhaps the greatest team in the Reds’ lauded history.
Most fans point this spite at the club’s American owners, Fenway Sports Group (FSG), and their scouting and transfer policies. The goal of this is to achieve both financial and on-field success. Recently, this structure played a key role in rescuing the club from bankruptcy. Furthermore, the Reds are now emerging as one of England’s elite clubs, as well as one of Europe’s best clubs, challenging each season. Despite this, fans seem to hate this very structure.
The unjustified frustration of Liverpool fans
Often the whining and complaining turn out to be out of place. Even then, certain LFC fans turn the issue against the owners, putting the club in a negative light. For example, take Mohamed Salah’s contract saga. For the past 18 months, Liverpool fans have chanted on Twitter how the Egyptian is irreplaceable. Essentially, they have asked the club to pay Salah whatever he wants. However, after Liverpool made Salah the highest-paid player in club history, the narrative changed. The fans said that they wanted to keep Sadio Mané for a cheaper price instead of Salah.
Take a look back before this latest season. The fans feared that the lack of reinforcement of the first line would have consequences. In fact, some foresaw a slide down the table towards mediocrity. They cited rivals Chelsea and Manchester City acquiring new players for more than $100 million. Meanwhile, Liverpool trusted Divock Origi and Takumi Minamino. They canceled the season before it started. One would think that the fans would give Jurgen Klopp a sense of respect and joy. After all, he guided the team to two trophies and runner-up finishes in the league and the Champions League. Also, he did it without the ‘necessary’ depth and strength that Chelsea and Manchester City brought.
No. Suddenly, that crop of success last season, which featured another 90-point season in the league, is an embarrassment. Now the sale of Takumi Minamino shows that the criticized Japanese international played a key role in the team. A player who didn’t serve depth a year ago shouldn’t be sold, by his logic.
stirring the pot
I totally get it. Many of these fan channels need clicks and views to make a living. Putting everything in a positive light does not meet those demands. However, the negativity directed at certain players is simply unnecessary. The theory that more spending equals more trophies and that the FSG is holding the club back makes me, a Liverpool fan, frustrated with the fans.
Nothing is ever guaranteed in sport, regardless of who is boss or who signs the club. We see it over and over again. Big signings fail, coaches drown and clubs fall apart. Meanwhile, the list, at least on paper, has no flaws or weaknesses.
So if you’re one of those Liverpool fans now cursing the owners for not signing the midfielder you think you need to win a trophy this season, take a second to look at the club’s achievements over the last six seasons, take a deep breath. , support every player who lines up on opening day and just enjoy the ride.
