Cristiano Ronaldo: The Portuguese captain gave a controversial interview to British journalist Piers Morgan earlier this month.
He was openly critical of Manchester United’s board and manager Erik ten Hag during the interview. Cristiano Ronaldo’s interview angered the Manchester United hierarchy, which terminated his contract on Tuesday.
British broadcaster Piers Morgan has hinted that Cristiano Ronaldo knew the interview would end his Manchester United career. Morgan said (h/t The Athletic): “Cristiano Ronaldo and I have built a relationship for a few years, and when he called me he said: ‘I want to do an interview, I want to say everything.
I said, ‘if you say everything I think you’re going to say, then you’ll probably have to leave the club.’ He said, ‘I know.’ So he knew what he was getting himself into.”
