Juventus have reportedly highlighted Atalanta star Teun Koopmeinrs as the ideal profile to reinforce the middle of the park for next season.
The Bianconeri have been linked with a number of midfielders in January, including Jordan Henderson.
However, it looks like the club will rely on the current crop until the end of the season before spending money on a proper reinforcement in the summer.
According to Tuttosport via ilBianconero, the Koopmeiners remain the preferred target of Juventus directors Cristiano Giuntoli and Giovanni Manna.
The hierarchy would have tried to sign the Dutchman in January if they had had the financial means to reach an agreement with Atalanta, which values the player at around 40 million euros.
The Bianconeri will therefore bide their time and wait for a cash injection ahead of the summer transfer market before launching an attack for the 25-year-old’s services.
Koopmeiners joined La Dea in 2021 and has a contract valid until 2027. He has proven to be a versatile player capable of playing different roles in the midfield.
The Dutch international also has a knack for scoring goals. This season he has contributed six goals and four assists in all competitions.
The report also mentions Real Sociedad midfielder Mikel Merino as an alternative to the Koopmeiners.
The 27-year-old has established himself as a key player for his club and little by little has become a pillar of the Spanish team.
The Spaniard can contribute in both the offensive and defensive phases, although he does not score as regularly as Koopmeiners.
Merino had spells at Osasuna, Borussia Dortmund and Newcastle before joining Sociedad in 2018. His contract will expire in June 2025.
