FOX’s World Cup commentators prepare for the second World Cup on the channel. However, many of the names that appear on FOX are veterans when it comes to broadcasting.
Some of the FOX World Cup commentators have more than 30 years of experience. Other co-commentators are making their tournament or FOX debuts. Of course, it wouldn’t be an American broadcast of the World Cup without the participation of select players from the United States. That includes a couple of USMNT representatives, as well as a former USWNT player.
It’s a strong mix of talents, with the total number of commentators reaching 10. Thus, there are five pairs of English-language announcers for US coverage of the World Cup. Here’s how the FOX World Cup commentator roster is formed for November and December.
FOX World Cup 2022 commentators and pairings
John Strong and Stu Holden
The main team of FOX’s coverage of the World Cup is a common one for soccer fans watching FOX. Strong and Holden were the main commentary duo for FOX’s coverage in 2018, appearing regularly at games involving the USMNT.
Since 2014, Strong and Holden have been available for more than 250 meetings in total. By the World Cup final in Qatar, that number will top 300. That’s the most of any English-language commentary duo.
Expect this duo to call the USMNT games at the World Cup. Holden came on as a substitute the last time the United States played England at the World Cup in 2010.
J.P. Dellacamera and Cobi Jones
JP Dellacamera is one of the most recognizable voices in soccer broadcasting in the United States. His World Cup experience dates back to 1986 when he was working with ESPN. He called games in every tournament since then, whether on television or radio, with the exception of 1994.
Joining Dellacamera is Cobi Jones, a USMNT icon who amassed 164 caps for the national team. A long-time LA Galaxy player, Jones served as a color commentator for the club’s local broadcasts.
Derek Rae and Aly Wagner
This is another familiar duo for FOX’s World Cup coverage. In 2018, Rae worked with Wagner to announce games in Russia. Recognized for his work with the Bundesliga, Derek Rae is a freelance commentator who also appears on ESPN’s LaLiga broadcasts. His experience in the World Cup is also extensive. He includes recent credits with ESPN in 2010 and 2014, before being part of the FOX team at Russia 2018.
As stated, World Cup commentary is also nothing new for Aly Wagner. In fact, Wagner is the first woman to call a World Cup match on American television, a feat she achieved in 2018 working alongside Rae.
Warren Barton and Jacqui Oatley
The next names on FOX’s World Cup commentator list are Warren Barton and Jacqui Oatley. Warren Barton is a regular on FOX, as he serves as an expert. Barton began working for FOX in 2005.
Jacqui Oatley is a regular name on the Premier League commentary show. He has a history of presenting coverage of World Cup games, including 2014 and 2018. On both, he worked with ITV in England.
Ian Darke and Landon Donovan
Ian Darke and Landon Donovan make up the surnames for FOX’s World Cup pairings. The two are intertwined for American fans. When Landon Donovan scored the goal at the 2010 World Cup, Ian Darke called the goal memorable. Now, Donovan is the co-commentator for him.
Ian Darke was not part of FOX’s coverage for the 2018 World Cup. However, he was in the global feed. Before that, he worked on the 2010 and 2014 World Cups with ESPN. He brings experience and enjoyment, and now works alongside the joint leading goalscorer in USMNT history.
