Gary Neville Criticizes Phil Foden Decision in FIFA World Cup Match

England v USA: Gary Neville has criticized Gareth Southgate for leaving Phil Foden as an unused substitute for England vs USA in a Group B match at the 2022 FIFA World Cup.

The Three Lions had started their 2022 FIFA World Cup campaign on a stellar note, beating Iran in their opening game. Southgate’s men revolted against Iran and secured a 6-2 win over the Asian nation to start their campaign on the right foot.

However, the Three Lions were far from their best in the England vs. USA match, and the two teams shared points late in the match. The England vs USA match ended in a goalless draw as the Three Lions put in a rather disappointing performance.

Southgate had opted for the same starting XI that started against Iran, and that meant Phil Foden started the game on the bench. The England coach had signed him as a substitute against Iran. But Southgate opted to keep Phil Foden as an unused substitute in the match against the United States.

Gary Neville also described Phil Foden as the best player in England and believes he should start for the Three Lions.

“He is a great talent. I think he is our best player and our best talent by a mile in this country. He really he should be starting in that team,” added Gary Neville after learning that Phil Foden was not in the starting XI for the England vs USA FIFA World Cup match.

As the England vs USA match progressed and the score was still goalless, Southgate made substitutions. He made three substitutions in the game against the USA, bringing on Marcus Rashford, Jordan Henderson and Jack Grealish in the second half.
