Liverpool have seen nine of their youngsters called up for international duty with England this month, with Harvey Elliott among those named for the under-21s.
The England senior team announcement on Thursday brought the not unexpected news that Trent Alexander-Arnold was the only Liverpool player involved.
With Jordan Henderson injured along with Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, and Joe Gomez and Nat Phillips not under consideration, the No. 66 is the Reds’ only squad for clashes with Italy and Germany.
There was speculation that Elliott could be a late inclusion ahead of the 2022 World Cup, but Gareth Southgate opted to leave the 19-year-old out.
Instead, Elliott is part of the 25-man squad to represent the Under-21s in their own friendlies against Italy (September 22) and Germany (September 27).
Conor Gallagher has retired from the senior team as part of Lee Carsley’s group, along with Rhian Brewster, Morgan Gibbs-White and Ryan Sessegnon.
Elsewhere, Liverpool duo Harvey Davies and James Balagizi are in the England Under-20 squad to play Chile (September 21), Morocco (September 24) and Australia (September 27) in San Pedro del Pinatar, Spain.
Four Reds will join the England U19 squad, with Isaac Mabaya, Luke Chambers, Lee Jonas and Oakley Cannonier all part of Simon Rusk’s group to face Montenegro (September 21), Georgia (September 24) and Denmark (September 27) in the U-19 European Championship. qualifiers.
And finally, Bobby Clark and Ranel Young are in the England under-18 squad to play the Netherlands (September 21), Faroe Islands (September 23) and Belgium (September 26).
Along with Elliott, Davies, Mabaya, Clark and Chambers have been involved with the Liverpool first team this season, while Balagizi is impressing on his first loan spell with Crawley Town.
Jonas has recovered from injury to assume a regular role for the Under-21s, as has Cannonier, who has scored four goals in two UEFA Youth League Under-19 appearances so far.
Young is a freshman with the Under-18s, having made three appearances for the Marc Bridge-Wilkinson team so far and two more for the Under-19s.
